Saint John, the Disciple of Love, once heard about a youth who left the righteous way of life and joined a band of robbers. Despite his old age, Saint John travelled into the wilderness to find him. When the youth saw him he began to run and hide, but Saint John ran after him promising to take his sins upon himself if he repented and ceased to bring ruin upon his Soul. The young man was shaken by the deep love of Saint John, and he repented and changed his way of life.
