The parents of Saint Alexios, Euphemianus and Aglais, were faithful and devoted to works of mercy. In an Icon below you can see, before Saint Alexios was born, his parents organised in their home three tables of meals for orphans, widows, wanderers and Monks.

They Prayed constantly for God to grant them a child, and He Blessed with with Saint Alexios. When Saint Alexios began to read at six years old he was drawn to the Holy Scriptures, and he imitated his parents in fasting, almsgiving, and he wanted to live in asceticism so he secretly wore a hair shirt under his clothes.
