The Miraculous story of Panagia Kitrinopetritissa (Panagia of Yellow Rock) and the founding of the Monastery of Saint George. Eleni, the founder of the Holy Monastery of Saint George in Yellow Rock, New South Wales fervently Prayed for an answer on what to do with some circumstances in her and her husband, Dimitrianos’ life. It was not long before she had a vision of Panagia informing her to go to a far away land overseas. Other visions had followed with greater description about this far away land which she had soon realised that this distant land described in her dreams was Australia.
On the 8th of March 1958 the couple had arrived to Sydney, Australia from London. Shortly after in 1960, Eleni had a vision of wild bushland surrounded by creeks and eucalyptus trees with a large silver Cross in the sky. Soon after a voice proclaimed, “You are to build a Church here”. Confused and overwhelmed by the vision, Eleni asked how she was going to build it with the voice saying to her, “The people will help you.”
After more than a few twists and turns that almost lead her nearby to where the Monastery is today, the Mother of God appeared to Eleni in a dream again telling her that she was looking at the wrong places; the Virgin Mary was to be found elsewhere. Eventually Eleni found herself in Yellow Rock where she immediately recognised the land from the dream. After seeking advice from His Eminence Archbishop Ezekiel of blessed memory, he gave his blessing and allowed Eleni and Dimitrianos to purchase the land. The couple with Archbishop Ezekiel inspected a piece of land. Upon arriving at the property, Eleni proclaimed “This is the place Your Eminence!” with great excitement. Archbishop Ezekiel then Prayed and turned to the couple saying that the Monastery would be named after Saint George.
From this Miracle, in 2012 the Icon of Panagia of Yellow Rock (Panagia Kitrinopetritissa) was commissioned. Many faithful venerate the Holy Icon with some having experienced Miracles. This Icon is kept at the Holy Monastery of Saint George, Yellow Rock.
