Saint Filofteia Pray to God for us.

Saint Filofteia was born in Tronovo in Bulgaria. Her mother began to insitill in her Soul Virtues and Faith in Christ, however she reposed in the Lord when Saint Filofteia was still young.

+

Her father remarried, and her step-mother treated her very unkindly, but she bore it all patiently. She often accused Saint Filofteia of giving their possessions away to the poor, and her father chastised her for this, however Saint Filofteia continued to do good to others, as her mother had taught her, and she continued to attend Church Services.

+

When Saint Filofteia was twelve years old, her stepmother sent her to take food to her father who was working in the fields. On her way there, she came across some poor people, and she gave them most of the food she was carrying.

+

That evening when her father came home, he was tired and hungry, and asked his wife why she had sent him so little food to eat. She replied that she sent more than enough food, and she blamed Saint Filofteia.

+

This continued to happen, so her father spied on her to see what his daughter did with his food. When he noticed her giving it to the poor people, he became enraged with anger, tied her up with a rope and hit her with his agricultural tool he had in his belt. Blood began to flow from her wounded leg, and Saint Filofteia gave up her Soul to God.

+

Her father then tried to pick up her body to hide it, but was unable to move it as it became heavier than lead, and the Glory of God shone around it. Realising what he did, Saint Filofteia’s father gave himself up to the authorities. The Metropolitan was informed, and he came with many Clergy and a great crowd of people to the body of Saint Filofteia. They wanted to take her body to the Cathedral but their attempts were in vain. So they decided to say names of the great Churches of Bulgaria and around the world, in the hope that the Saint would give them a sign. Her body remained immovable until they mentioned the newly constructed Church of Curtea de Arges in Wallachia, and they understood she wanted her body to be taken there. They translated her Holy Relics to the Church where she remains to this day and works many Miracles.
