Prayers
Apolytikion: The famed city of Athens doth honour Philothea, the Righteous Martyr, whose Relics it now revereth with joy; for while living in sobriety and Holiness, she hath exchanged all Earthly things for the Everlasting Life through great contests as a Martyr; and she entreateth the Saviour to grant His Mercy unto all of us.
Kontakion: We all honour Philothea with jubilation of spirit, as this day we reverently worship her Venerable Relics. For she lived her whole life working kindness and mercy; and the righteous one, receiving a Martyr’s ending, is deemed worthy to entreat God that all be granted Eternal Life with the Saints.

Saint Philothea saw the Holy Apostle Saint Andrew in a vision, and he told her to build a Monastery. So she established a women’s Monastery dedicated to Saint Andrew.

Saint Philothea welcomed many women to stay at the Monastery, providing for them a means of care and shelter, and also encouraging their Spiritual life and love of Christ. Many of these women dedicated their lives to Christ and were Tonsured as Nuns.

Saint Philothea together with her Sisterhood cared for the misfortunate through education, sowing garments to clothe people, and providing food to those who had none.

Saint Philothea was brought to the judges when it became known that she was protecting a large number of women who would otherwise be tortured to renounce their Christianity. She was released and able to continue her Asceticism and founded a new Monastery. Not long after, she was found again, tortured and received a Martyrs Crown.
