Saint Nicholas heard about a poor father who could not afford a dowry for his eldest daughter to be married, and had the intention for her to enter a sinful life instead. So Saint Nicholas tossed a small pouch of the exact amount of money through their window at night. This was sufficient dowry and the eldest girl was able to be married. Saint Nicholas secretly and humbly repeated this for each daughter when she became of age.

“The Giver of every good and perfect gift has called upon us to mimic His giving, by Grace, through Faith, and this is not of ourselves.”

The father of the daughters was so grateful, and when his third daughter became of age he stayed up at night to see who was helping them, and he thanked Saint Nicholas and God with all his heart.
