Feast Day: May 9th

& Sunday of the Holy Forefathers of Christ (Sunday between 11th-17th of December)

The Life of Prophet Isaiah: I saw the Lord sitting on a Throne, high and lifted up, and the train of His robe filled the Temple. Above it stood Seraphim; each one had six wings: with two he covered his face, with two he covered his feet, and with two he flew. And one cried to another and said: “Holy, Holy, Holy is the Lord of Hosts; the whole Earth is full of His Glory!”…

Prayers

Apolytikion: Thou didst proclaim the coming of Christ to the world, with a great voice like a trumpet, O most illustrious Prophet Isaiah. Thou wast shown forth as a swiftly-writing scribe of things to come. Wherefore we acclaim thee with Hymns.

Kontakion: O Prophet-Martyr Isaiah, herald of God, through thy gift of Prophecy, thou didst make God’s Incarnation clear to all by proclaiming: Behold, the Virgin shall conceive in her womb.

Isaiah 6

“In the year that King Uzziah died, I saw the Lord sitting on a Throne, high and lifted up, and the train of His robe filled the Temple. Above it stood Seraphim; each one had six wings: with two he covered his face, with two he covered his feet, and with two he flew. And one cried to another and said: “Holy, Holy, Holy is the Lord of Hosts; the whole Earth is full of His Glory!” And the posts of the door were shaken by the voice of him who cried out, and the house was filled with smoke. So I said: “Woe is me, for I am undone! Because I am a man of unclean lips, and I dwell in the midst of a people of unclean lips; For my eyes have seen the King, The Lord of Hosts.” Then one of the Seraphim flew to me, having in his hand a live coal which he had taken with the tongs from the Altar. And he touched my mouth with it, and said: “Behold, this has touched your lips; Your iniquity is taken away, and your sin purged.” Also I heard the Voice of the Lord, saying: “Whom shall I send, And who will go for Us?” Then I said, “Here am I! Send me.” And He said, “Go, and tell this people: ‘Keep on hearing, but do not understand; Keep on seeing, but do not perceive.’ “Make the heart of this people dull, And their ears heavy, And shut their eyes; Lest they see with their eyes, And hear with their ears, And understand with their heart, And return and be healed.”…

Isaiah 7:14

“Therefore the Lord Himself will give you a sign: Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a Son, and shall call His name Emmanuel.”

+

Isaiah 9:6-7

“For unto us a Child is born, unto us a Son is given; and the government will be upon His shoulder. And His name will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. Of the increase of His government and peace there will be no end…”

Isaiah 11

“There shall come forth a Rod from the stem of Jesse, and a Branch shall grow out of his roots. The Spirit of the Lord shall rest upon Him, The Spirit of wisdom and understanding, the Spirit of counsel and might, the Spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the Lord… And in that day there shall be a Root of Jesse, Who shall stand as a banner to the people; For the Gentiles shall seek Him, and His resting place shall be glorious.”

+

Isaiah 26:9

“With my Soul I have desired You in the night, yes, by my spirit within me I will seek You early.”

+

Isaiah 26:19

“But your dead will live; their bodies will rise. Those who live in the dust will wake up and shout for joy! For your dew is like the dew of dawn, and the Earth will give birth to the dead.”

+

Isaiah 53: 4-8

“Surely He has borne our griefs and carried our sorrows; Yet we esteemed Him stricken, smitten by God, and afflicted. But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities; The chastisement for our peace was upon Him, and by His stripes we are healed. All we like sheep have gone astray; We have turned, every one, to his own way; And the Lord has laid on Him the iniquity of us all. He was oppressed and He was afflicted, yet He opened not His mouth; He was led as a lamb to the slaughter, and as a sheep before its shearers is silent, so He opened not His mouth. He was taken from prison and from judgment, and who will declare His generation? For He was cut off from the land of the living; For the transgressions of My people He was stricken.”
